Plantar Pressure Distribution Before and After Surgery for Lesser Metatarsophalangeal Joint Dislocation With Hallux Valgus – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

Hallux valgus surgery and open reduction of the lesser metatarsophalangeal joints with metatarsal shortening osteotomy help treat severe hallux valgus concomitant with the lesser metatarsophalangeal joint dislocation; however, pre- and postoperative plantar pressure distribution and its effect on the foot remain unclear. The pre- and postoperative groups comprised 16 patients with moderate-to-severe symptomatic hallux valgus with lesser metatarsophalangeal joint dislocation. All feet underwent…

Effectiveness of digital pain management for older adults with musculoskeletal pain: systematic review with meta-analysis – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

INTRODUCTION: Musculoskeletal pain is highly prevalent among older adults and a leading cause of disability. Digital health promises to deliver timely and quality care, but existing reviews fail to be specific for older adults, focus on a single type of technology or a single body site, and do not provide an integrated overview of the effectiveness of current digital interventions. This systematic review with meta-analysis (Prospero ID: CRD42024549668) aimed to assess the effectiveness of…

Percutaneous Surgery for Tailor’s Bunion: A Comparative Study – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

Objective To analyze and compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of bunionette correction using two percutaneous surgical techniques: the Sponsel technique and the medial wedge osteotomy of the distal metaphysis. The results were evaluated individually and comparatively using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society’s Lesser Metatarsophalangeal-Interphalangeal Scale (AOFAS), Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain assessment, and radiographic measurements of the intermetatarsal angle…

Clinical and Histopathological Features of Hair Loss in 17 Japanese Patients With Hematologic Disorders Following Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Chemotherapy: A Case Series - Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

Clinical and Histopathological Features of Hair Loss in 17 Japanese Patients With Hematologic Disorders Following Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Chemotherapy: A Case Series – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

CONCLUSION: Main pathology is considered the hair miniaturization rather than inflammation-mediated change in the chronic phase of hair loss. Therapies targeting follicular miniaturization, exemplified by topical minoxidil, have the potential to induce hair regrowth.

Epidemiology of hallux valgus surgery in Italy: A nationwide study from 2001 to 2016 – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

CONCLUSIONS: The socio-economic burden of hallux valgus surgery in Italy is relevant. The incidence of hallux valgus surgery has progressively increased between 2001 and 2012 and decreased from 2012 to 2016. A geographically unequal distribution of procedures between the three Italian macroregions was pointed out. Migratory flows of patients from the South to the North for undergoing the procedure were observed.

Forefoot Function after Hallux Valgus Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on Plantar Load Measurement – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

While hallux valgus (HV) surgeries are useful for correcting skeletal alignment problems, their effects on plantar load, which reflects forefoot functions, are less understood. The objective of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis on the plantar load change after HV surgeries. A systematic search of Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, CENTRAL, EMBASE, and CINAHL was performed. Studies that assessed the pre- and post-operative plantar pressure of HV patients undergoing…

Preoperative increased pronation angle of the first metatarsus associated with correction loss after hallux valgus surgery: A semi-weight-bearing computed tomography study – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

CONCLUSIONS: Increased preoperative first metatarsal pronation angle is associated with correction loss after HV surgery. Utilizing sWBCT to measure the pronation angle provides valuable insights into postoperative prognosis.

Efficacy and safety of pregabalin in the management of low back pain: a comprehensive meta-analysis – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

CONCLUSION: Pregabalin in the treatment of neuropathic LBP demonstrated significant improvements in pain relief, associated symptoms of anxiety and depression, and enhancements in quality of life and sleep quality. In addition, it exhibits a favorable safety profile. Nevertheless, these findings should be interpreted with caution due to the limited quality of the evidence and the inadequate reporting of pain etiology in several included studies.

Augmentation of the medial collateral ligament using suture tape reduces the recurrence after corrective surgery for severe hallux valgus – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

CONCLUSION: The medial joint capsule in severe HV deformity showed the degenerative change and the MCL reconstruction using suture tape combined with osteotomy provides a strong medial constraint to prevent the recurrence of the deformity in severe hallux valgus.

Comparison of third-generation minimally invasive surgery, split-drill osteotomy, and triplanar chevron osteotomy for treating mild to moderate hallux valgus with metatarsalgia in middle-aged women: An observational study – Summary by Liv Harley Street Hospital

This retrospective study compared the clinical efficacy of third-generation minimally invasive surgery (3rd-MIS) split-drill osteotomy with soft tissue release to that of triplanar chevron osteotomy (TCO) for treating mild to moderate hallux valgus (HV) with metatarsalgia in middle-aged women. This study compared the efficacy of 3rd-MIS using split-drill osteotomy to that of TCO in treating mild to moderate HV with metatarsalgia in 52 middle-aged women from March 2022 to June 2023….
