Mr Bhagawati is highly qualified, double fellowship trained Complex Spine Surgeon. He qualified from the University of Oxford and University College London.

 

He completed two prestigious and internationally recognised Complex Spine Surgery Fellowships – at Oxford University Hospitals and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London.

He has previously worked as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and is working as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

 

Mr Bhagawati is highly qualified in all the modern spinal techniques. These include Anterior Cevical Disectomy and Fusion, Cervical Disc replacement, Minimal Access Spine/Spinal Surgery (MASS), Minimally Invasive Spine/Spinal Surgery (MIS), Extra-Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF), Spine/Spinal Deformity Surgery, Kyphosis and Scoliosis, lumbar discectomy, lumbar decompression, balloon kyphoplasty as well as extensive experience in treating children with back and spine problems.

 

He also offers a full range of acute pain relieving procedures including cervical and lumbar nerve root blocks, cervical and lumbar facet injections, cervical, lumbar and caudal epidural injections as well as manipulation and injection of coccyx.

 

He has been involved in both Oxford and London at the cutting edge of scientific advances in surgery with a particular focus on the new implant designs.

 

He has published numerous scientific papers in journals including the European Spine Journal, The Spine Journal, The Journal of Spine Surgery, Journal of Neurosurgery Spine, British Medical Journal Clinical Evidence and the Annuals of the Royal College of Surgeons.

 

He has presented at a large number of major international meetings. These have included , World Spine Annual Meeting, Congress of Neuro Surgical Surgeons (USA), Scoliosis Research Society, British Association of Spine Surgeons, World Federation of Neuro Surgical Societies, World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Techniques, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Research Society (USA), European Orthopaedic Society (EFORT), The British Orthopaedic Research Society and many others.

 

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Member of the British Spine Society, a Member of the North American Spine Society, British Medical Association and the Girdlestone’s Orthopaedic Society.

 

He currently organises Spinal services across the whole of Bedfordshire, covering a population of 670 000. He has re-organised referral spine/spinal pathways to optimise patient outcomes, developed the local spine/spinal infrastructure and widened the range of spine/spinal procedures available to the local population.

 

His priorities are ensuring that the patient is at the centre of any spinal care decision making and ensuring patient safety at all stages of the patient pathway.
